Smokehouse in Stykkisholmsbaer
The project was born of the desire to create a functional roof, giving the neighbourhood a protected space to carry out social activities as well as local economical ones. It aims to connect the upper part of the town with the port, locating a visible landmark for tourism.
The smokehouse develops three different functions in three differentiated levels: the social playground which includes the local industry and resting areas; the ramps communication network and the roof made up of 12 raising cubic skylights.
The design strategies owe to have excellent light-gathering and open-protected spaces for the inhabitants despite the severe climate in winter by alternating orientations. Moreover, having an open-plan free at the base allows other activities being carried out, giving the city a new social focus.
