An alternative model of food production based on vertical farming is proposed as a response to traditional extensive agriculture, with the aim of reducing resource consumption and reintegrating food production into the urban environment. Through hydroponic systems and vertical structures, the proposal develops an efficient and adaptable productive model compatible with dense cities such as Madrid.

The intervention is located next to Plaza de España, in continuity with the Torre de Madrid, and aims to make productive infrastructures visible within the urban fabric. The building combines spaces for agricultural production, research, education, and public outreach, organized around a continuous cultivation system distributed throughout all levels.

The proposal is based on a modular and demountable construction system composed of a primary steel structure, CLT timber floor slabs, and independent laminated timber volumes designed for spaces requiring greater environmental control. The lightweight and permeable envelope regulates the relationship between interior and exterior spaces, while the roof incorporates a rainwater collection system used for crop irrigation.

The intervention proposes an open and flexible urban infrastructure that integrates food production, public space, and educational activity, rethinking the relationship between architecture, the city, and productive systems.
