CCC - Chamartín Commuting Cent
Chamartín Commuting Centre is born from the need to create a big transport hub in northern Madrid, a brand new infrastructure according to the 21th century urban mobility
The current train station was designed with mistakes, especially concerning the planning of its urban surrondings, as it was placed outside the city limits. However, the urban fabric grew fast and the transport hub wasn't meant to dialogue with the city.
Therefore, this project is an oportunity to create a new infrastructure along with a new quarter that will fill the last unoccupied urban plot of Downtown Madrid.
The new transport hub has as main objectives to be adapted to the current and future mobility models, to ease the intermodality of the the different transportations, to be easy-to-use both for commuters and casual travelers and to be equiped with up-to-date technology, supplying real-time information integrated in the different architectural elements.
The station is planned as a around 50000 square meter space featuring a slender pillar forest in a willfully monochromatical space, with the purpose to make the movement and colour of users and trains its main characters.
Madrid is about to develop Chamartín quarter, let's do it starring a transport hub focused in its users, suitable for today's mobility and tomorrow's city.
