CONCORDIA
(Concord)
From an idea, an universal reference framework. From an universal reference framework, an image. Form an image, an architecture.
According to Moneo, Cordoba’s mosque is the infinite space of architecture. Even allows the incrustation of a Christian cathedral.
Hagia Sophia is the crossbreed space between the Pantheon and the Basilica, as Chueca Goitia and many others could say. Even though in terms of structure does not entirely work because of the heterogenic strain distribution of the dome, it has become one of the most powerful religious symbol.
Rustem Pasha’s mosque represents the cult space piled on another use. Sinan built this piece in Stambul over a market. Five meters above the main street.
Concordia uses these three architectonic references to create a new place of worship in Tetuán. A temple formed of a Christian church and a mosque. As Cordoba’s mosque but instead of the incrustation, piled up. Where the element Minaret is used to structurally merge both typologies of space.
It is intended to materialize a sanctuary which take in both cults simultaneously for them to be capable of coexist. It is redefined the concept of a temple as the articulator agent of the city, as the nexus between divinity and humanity. A sacred place that cedes its space to the surrounding urban environment in which it is located.
