Earthwork
The project consists on a series of sport facilities in the Casa de Campo of Madrid, in the space that nowadays is occupied by the Zoo.
The idea for the project comes from its natural surroundings, taking as the starting point the hypothesis of space that would be created by transforming radically the site and it configuration, obtaining a result similar to a land art intervention. The operation is conducted in a rectangular perimeter, creating a contrast between the rigid regular limitations of the construction with the natural undulations of the land surrounding and the one who will be created inside. The ruins of the already missing Zoo are represented by some of its most significant architectural pieces designed by Javier Carvajal, and who rest both in and out of the new construction. Apart from that, the newly generated space have a new set of rules from the ones existing when the Zoo was still there, and the new buildings appear in between of the vegetation, as opposed to what happens nowadays. The only building in this new surface, dedicated to everything sports-related apart from playing outdoors, has an undulating roof to become camouflaged with nature. The only exception to this is the indoor track, which goes through the construction as a tunnel (illuminated with two patios).
