FRONTERAS COMUNES
In response to the eruption of the Tajogaite volcano in 2021, there is a need to understand and study this natural phenomenon through a project that allows the knowledge, research and dissemination of the new landscape. The objective is the creation of a Volcanological Research Centre and Interpretation Centre, whose location on the Cogote Mountain is justified by its geological uniqueness after the eruption.
The unique morphology of the Cogote Mountain, affected by the lava that flowed around it, creates an islet within the lava flow. This space becomes the ideal site to locate the centre's building. Thanks to its proximity to the main cone, the surrounding geomorphology has great geological richness, highlighting elements such as lava tubes and cracks. The design of the building is integrated into this environment, using thin pillars to rise and thus avoid the destruction of the soil and original vegetation.
The building, made up of 6x6x6 cubic modules, acts as a bridge over the lava arm, connecting the unaffected ground with the Cogote islet. This arrangement allows direct access to the lava flow for research and offers a comprehensive view to visitors to the Interpretation Centre. The building's floor plan is structured horizontally, with transverse walkways that create paths to preserve the landscape.
The linear structure of the building becomes a connecting element, providing paths and viewing points that enrich the visitor's experience. The integration of the building into the environment not only avoids a negative impact on the landscape, but also contributes to enhancing Cogote Mountain as a place to study volcanic activity and the Tajogaite eruption.
