FUNDACIÓN RIA
The course “from Madrid to the Atlantic Sea” is located in the village of Corrubedo, west of Galicia. It is proposed to create a new space for the RIA foundation (founded in 2017 by David Chipperfield) by starting to develop photomontages, which through abstraction will give rise to the project.
Corrubedo has a magnificent environment, from the rocks that form the entire Galician coast we create an abstraction transforming them into tetrapods, concrete pieces whose geometry allows them to intersect with each other. Then the project arose to generate a void in the plot as if we were extracting those tetrapods, giving rise to an interior patio with oblique geometries that will be the core of communications and main accesses.
The pre-existing walls will be maintained and restored as well as the ruins of the old salting factory that was on the site. Having the geometry of the patio, the void; We observed that the building adapts to the perimeter and shape of the site, which is why it was necessary to create a double-height roof that allows light to pass through to all interior areas. The building is a linear proposal, it is made up of metal studs that will border all the facades of the patio. We find two main spaces; one public with exhibition halls, auditorium, classrooms, workshops and other services and another private, apartments where the foundation's scientists will stay.
An irregular, organic garden is planned in which different wild plants (native to the area) grow without perimeter barriers. At the same time, a garden roof is created that serves as a link for the fusion of the building with nature.
The RIA foundation will have a unique place connected to the sea and nature in which to continue developing its activity and environmental commitment.
