Healing Water Flows
The Albufera de Valencia lagoon is undergoing a process of eutrophication, which taints its waters with a green color and hinders the respiration of the organisms that inhabit it. One of the causes is the arrival of fertilizers and chemical products used in the rice crops surrounding the lagoon, which reach its waters every year. How can we prevent this process in order to maintain the famous Valencian rice cultivation and fishing in this unique environment? By regulating the flow of contaminated water from the crops before it reaches the Albufera, and by taking the opportunity to raise awareness among people about the importance of cleanliness and water recycling in the productive sector.

The water from the crops is evacuated through a system of irrigation channels that organize the production fields around the Albufera, becoming a general infrastructure problem. This is why "Healing Water Flows" opts to implement a purification building in the Palmar area, to the east of the Albufera, with the aim of developing a rice cooperative that highlights rice cultivation and water cleanliness, supported by a restaurant and a pier. The building will serve as a preliminary filter before the discharge of these waters into the lagoon and will seek to merge different spaces and uses at all times, in order to connect the cooperative's educational purpose with production and trade.

Only by involving people in the knowledge of each agricultural process can we embark on the path towards an ecological and realistic cultivation that makes visible what is often hidden in buildings under the name of 'facilities' or 'engine rooms'—the processes of cleaning the rice grain and purifying the water used for its cultivation.
