The new day care center in Las Águilas arises halfway between a new interpretation of the facilities and an investigation of sensory comfort. The location of the site makes it an extensive plot with no shade cast with a difference of 2 meters in elevation on its larger sides. As condition of our placement strategy, we propose a staggered system of slabs, subdivided into two families:

Due to the importance of light quality and its effect on the production of melatonin and serotonin in the human body becomes one of the premises of the project. A three-layer envelope is designed from the 4 distances obtained from the structural axes. In this way, a wraparound façade with discontinuous stripes inspired by the layers of the skin is proposed, seeking the suggestive potential of lighting.

The epidermis, the outermost layer, works as a protective agent against external factors and is the first strainer of light. Anchored to vertical ribs in the auxiliary structure, it suggests formal variability in the façade through the combination of 4 pieces made up of transparent borosilicate tubes, whose variable arrangement offers us twice as many possibilities with the same piece and whose cylindrical shapes accentuate the games of reflection and refraction in the incidence of daylight towards the interior and of the nocturnal towards the exterior and the city.

The intermediate layer, the dermis, is coupled between the auxiliary structure of the façade and meets the most specific needs of each space. Made up of a system of cables and translucent or transparent tensioned fabrics depending on the program to which they are linked, vary the incidence of light by means of a practicable anchorage along a diagonal rail. In groups of 4 anchored fabrics, they are stretched or contracted proportionally allowing a more exhaustive and directed control of the lighting, as well as the capture of ambient humidity at specific times.

The third and innermost layer, the hypodermis, is arranged between the slabs and guarantees the watertightness of the building. It is organized as a system of total transparency or opacity according to the parts of the program it affects.

Superimposing the three layers of the facade in their different combinations and variations, it is decided to eliminate the least relevant possibilities, and thus, an approximate definition of the desired light range is achieved and therefore the sensory genesis within the architectural experience. In this way, specific lighting atmospheres are defined for each part of the building, partially restricting screening, but offering a great capacity for manipulation by the user. With the aim of providing the light component as a transformer of space.
