Inhabiting The Infrastructure
This project is situated in el Cañaveral, in the city of Madrid. The disparity between this neighbourhood and la Cañada Real makes the land in between a space of urban and architectural opportunities. Each collaborative project developed in this context collectively becomes a tester of the city where the idea of habitat is reinterpreted.
Through this new urban thinking and negotiating, my project's INFRASTRUCTURAL role is established.
The project explores the possibilities offered by the presence of this new "internodal hub" beyond its conception as an urban identifier and mobility filter. Is it possible to link it with a habitat? Can it become a productive space for the neighbourhood?
The horizontal structure acts as a container for the car, which led the project into considering new ways of generating active spaces around the idea of "parking".
By introducing a series of activity-containing spaces, the car now participates in an active and adaptable habitat, capable of evolving programmatically with future changes in mobility and a potential carless future. The vertical structure becomes the container of productive and habitable spaces that satisfy the need for an active community and an educational program in el Cañaveral. A flexible educative infrastructure is linked to a new conception of the domestic space.
Imagining the habitat as a decanted and adaptable space for the different users generates a unique living for each micro-community within the tower. The living space is conceived as a combination of individual, shared or collective more private spaces and their dependence on a shared program condenser. This central element serves the more private spaces and qualifies the interstitial space between them.
