Lens Tower
Lens Tower is about interpreting organic forms and volumetric shapes. Located in Chandigahr, this housing tower is subject to hot and humid weather. Therefore, exterior open spaces were key to the development of the project. There are four types of living units, each having a unique set-up. Two of them are flexible in their distribution, being able to change according to its use. All floors are unique, however, there are four plan sections which represent the main combinations and volumes that take place throughout the tower.
Following the steps of Le Corbusier, we were encouraged to make collages with the aim of finding systematic orders and special qualities during the creation process. At this point, the project was set to become a living being, with round shapes and moving arms. For this reason, I chose to make the model with glasses; by intertwining and twisting their arms, I was able to build tensions that allowed the model to be self-standing. The spaces formed through the lenses, the overall playfulness of the model, and the organic and spontaneous movement present in the photomontage, lead to the development of Lens Tower.
