Madera y Enigma
In this course, we have tackled the conception of a tower based on a specific theme and material, with wood and enigma being the two ideas that best define this project. Starting from wood, and being aware of the impossibility, or even the utopian nature, of constructing a tower whose load-bearing structure is exclusively made of this material, the proposal presents an architecture in which wood becomes the main material, while requiring a complementary structure that truly takes on the structural role.

In this way, the tower has been conceived as a wooden superstructure based on multiple triangulations and bracing systems, which provide greater overall stability and, at the same time, introduce the notion of enigma. This condition is reinforced through its external image, which evokes that of an unfinished building, a kind of scaffolding that functions as a façade.

Regarding the enigma, the housing layout through serviced bands seeks to dialogue with the tower’s own image, since the rigorous order of compartments conveys the feeling of a seemingly uninhabited space. Throughout the project, the idea of the walkway as a route is present, understanding the tower as a spatial experience, something that becomes especially evident in the intermediate spaces, inspired by Piranesi’s Prisons.

The serviced band intended for housing attempts to preserve, in plan, the labyrinthine language that characterizes the rest of the project. However, the enigma is most strongly emphasized in the circulation system: depending on the floor one is on, access to the dwelling occurs in different ways, with the elevator exits changing, as well as the paths and arrangement of the walkways themselves.
