Where should monuments go when they are removed from the public space?

This project explores the last stage of the life of those unique pieces that contain memory, but are destroyed, forgotten or hidden within the city. Useless pieces of stone or bronze that show the difficult relationship between colective memory and the public realm.

A public park is developed in the district of Carabanchel, Madrid. A number of old monuments are selected, taken from the city and relocated in this natural environment, where they join other pieces of memory already present in the plot, like fragments of the old prison of Carabanchel or a church from the 13th century.

Brought together, both families of monuments -the native ones and the ones that are imported- define a landscape where subtle but meaningful interventions make the visitor wander through time and space. Where monuments don't show directy their intended meaning and purpose, but it is the visitor who must discover or rather deduce it.

A park where each person find their own definition of monument.
