Nave-gando el borde
Over the last century, the city of San Sebastián has undergone an urban transformation as a result of various architectural and, in some cases, sculptural interventions. Small gestures have led to the revitalisation of certain areas of the city.

In this context, my project is located in the port of Pasajes within the metropolitan area of Donosti. This cargo port is characterised as a post-industrial landscape with certain issues that have yet to be resolved. One of these areas is the Hospitalillo quay, on the western edge of the port, which has now been converted into an informal car park for workers. My project not only recovers this car park but also uses the nearby warehouses, which are in disuse (as they are located on the other side of the port). It is an area with great potential as it is located between three forgotten working-class neighbourhoods of the city of San Sebastián and could become a new hub for the port area.

To this end, the project programme proposes a reactivation of the site. This is based on an archive of the San Sebastián Film Festival (Zinemaldi), which is the city's flagship event. After several analyses, I concluded that the Zinemaldi has an archive that is not open to the public. A new attraction for the city could be created while at the same time recovering a post-industrial void. In addition, this archive will bring the glamour of the festival to an area outside the media spotlight, such as this one.

In terms of the floors, the trusses of the warehouses form the base grid for the project. The archive is fragmented into several volumes that follow this grid but are also separated from it in certain areas, flowing to integrate certain uses. These volumes incorporate different functions associated with the archive, while certain areas are designated for the community. Three floors are defined:
the first is for public use and community meeting spaces (such as a film club, a library, or several meeting rooms)
a second floor for the Festival's exhibition and dissemination functions
a third floor for consultation of collections, offices and meeting spaces for conferences and exhibition presentations

The main function (which is to screen films) takes place in circular units that gather a group of spectators and isolate them from the exhibition route or the surrounding environment . In this way, independent units are generated which can be coordinated according to the requirements of the exhibition.

To top off the building, he proposed an outdoor cinema that could become a new meeting place for locals. This cinema also represents the transition from the urban to the maritime context on the quay itself.

A parametric metal roof is placed on top of these floors, serving to stitch together a space that was initially so divided. In this way, the intervention is conceived as a single unit rather than as separate pieces. In section, it is compressed and decompressed to distribute points of tension within the uniform height of the archive. Furthermore, this roof also connects with the sea and mountain landscape of the area.

This archive, in addition to rescuing a space that seemed lost, serves as a starting point for an urban transformation of the port area that may continue in the future. We will see if we recover Pasajes.
