O Camiño Lanar
Wildfires in Galicia have significantly increased in recent years, threatening both its ecosystems and rural communities. The accumulation of flammable vegetation in mountainous areas is a key factor in their spread. This situation is particularly concerning for the "Montes Vecinales en Mano Común" (MVMC), a unique form of communal land management in Galicia. These lands have historically belonged to local rural communities, with the residents collectively managing them, a process that can be complex and time-consuming.

This project is part of a broader proposal aimed at promoting environmental conservation through silvopastoral techniques. Specifically, it seeks to protect the MVMC by establishing a silvopastoral route in high-altitude areas, reducing wildfire risks in regions classified as particularly vulnerable. Given that local cattle farming struggles with these terrains, the project proposes introducing sheep grazing instead. The approach focuses on the recovery of the "Ovella Galega", an endangered native sheep breed, due to the decline of traditional sheep farming.

The project consists of two architectural elements:

1 _ Mountain Satellites _ Small structures scattered across the MVMC lands, enabling rotational grazing throughout the year. These provide nighttime shelter for the sheep and a living space for shepherds, ensuring effective pasture management and wildfire prevention.

2 _ Wool Management Hub _ A central facility dedicated to processing and teaching traditional wool-working techniques. The decline of sheep farming has led to a loss of wool craftsmanship, turning a once-valuable resource into waste. This hub aims to revitalize the wool industry by educating new generations on its processing and utilization.
