Occupying Shinjuku
Occupying Shinjuku is a project born from the study of the structural Tokyo. Through this study I discovered the monumental Shinjuku station a true Tokyo infrastructural symbol. The station itself is an underground city hidden under the surface of Tokyo. This will become my place of intervention.
The project consists of exploring different forms of occupation of the interior of Shinjuku. The first intervention, Modular Occupation, is based on modular structural adaptability to the needs of space and circulation routes of the different scenarios found in the station. The second intervention, Hakuro House, aims to create a different form of occupation, a home for one of the "inhabitants of Shinjuku", a station worker. An underground shelter that connects directly with the outside world through a mechanism that enables the ascension. In this way we create an experience based on exploration and observation without leaving the house.
