RADICAL
In these projects, of the Aranguren+Gallegos teaching unit, the aim is to transfer radical architecture to New York City. Two projects have been carried out: a vertical structure (tower) and a horizontal structure (bridge).
The tower project seeks to carry out an exploration of vertical space through the arrangement of geometric modules organized with a certain rhythm. It also seeks to achieve the quality of instability, used by sculptors such as Oteiza or Giacometti. The piece has been made with iron, this heavy and rigid material contrasts with the lightness and slenderness of the tower.
The bridge is planned like a path. A series of ramps with routes at different heights are drawn with the intention of turning the bridge into a space for walking and observation. These tours end in terraces that face Manhattan. The bridge is projected as a light walkway supported by iron buttresses similar to Richard Sierra's sculptures in the desert. One of the ramps ends at the level of the river, which allows the walker to observe the city between the buttresses of the bridge.
