ResinMAT
Construction materials have always been in the spotlight; they have always been subject to change as new combinations of elements have appeared, leading to the use of new materials with new and different features.
Several studies prove that pine resin is a substance with a wide range of properties; nowadays, this substance is being investigated in order to discover its applications to future materials. Thus, pine resin and its advantages and features are chosen as an opportunity to carry out this project.

Keeping this in mind, we address to ‘Sierra de Gredos’, located in Ávila, a place of almost idyllic conditions with huge 'Pinus Pinaster' forests that must be put in prospective value as a fantastic scenery.

ResinMAT is a project that comes into direct contact with the surrounding area, while experimenting with local materials; it also chooses the shapes that best adapt to the place and its pines. The proposal consists of a circular circuit which shows the production and investigation of a resin composite. In addition, the resin composite itself its shown while applied to some of the materials that build the complex.

The project is developed along one single level; bearing walls create a path between the trunks of the trees and enclose the spaces that contain the proposed program; platforms elevate the project off the ground; a huge number of wood porticos allow the structural resolution; finally, a wood casing, which works as a cover and facade, enables a control of the light and the framing of the landscape.

This strategy leads to a network of spaces in which, besides the experimentation with pine resin in order to be used in architecture in a near future, a framework is created so the project open up to the extensive pine forest. Every space is conceived to appreciate the place because everything is in the natural scenery, reflecting, in this sense, the way this type of architecture is part of nature itself.
