Sanatorium
Rocinha is one of the most dense and active communities in Brazil. The edification has been growing out of the land without any type of control and most of the streets are dark and dirty alleys.

Is in the sky the solution for a place where people can't live on the ground?

Sanatorium appeared with the idea of verticality, coexisting with the community and trying not to condicionate its development.

There is only one Hospital in Rocinha, and it is located in the lowest part of the favela, so it makes it harder for most of the people to get basic health care. To resolve this situation, I set out a distribution of types of towers around the community. There are a few principal towers, bigger and taller, where the people can find a place to rest and recover, and some smaller towers where they can get current consultations.

The essence of the design of both towers is the same, they both are born from the superposition of platforms which are made with bobbins and set up the different levels. All the platforms are connected with rods which create the vertical connections and also work as the structural support.

If we break down the parts of the platforms, we can see a path between cylindrical walls, distinguishing the privates (the rooms) and the common zones. We could also stand out the accessible roof or the skylights.

The Sanatorium aims for the creation of a place raised from the rush and filth of the ground to let the community a place where they can recover and enjoy the quietness of the Rocinhas sky.
