Squares of Madrid Rio
The project is located in the East End of Puente del Rey, in the axis created with the Royal Palace and Jardín del Moro. Such location is aimed at recovering some character of conection that Puente del Rey has, next to Túnel de Bonaparte, between the city and Casa de Campo, the tower serving as a gateway. The tower is raised as a hot spot, thanks to its size and appearance. The tower acts as a connecting link transforming and increasing the passage through Puente del Rey, as axis that it is. This is attained with a diaphanous ground floor.
The way in which sports are performed changes, always keeping the preconceived idea of the street style of the games, with superfluous spaces and redefined limits accordinf to the player's convenience. That is to say a urban sport facility for the urban life. This idea is reassessed and becomes a height element, the "height street". Building a serie of squares or platforms that adapt to a kind of sport space, but not in a closed way, rather free. That tower offers a serie of panoramic sights of Madrid which, thanks to its location, offers the pleasure of watching some of the most emblematic buildings in Madrid.
It is presented as a stack of squares because of the scarce number of squares in the surroundings and due to the question: why should not we gather many squares in the same place?
Regarding the tower, it is pretended formally an element with the lowest number of supports that can bear the platforms. Every platform has a different character and entity, adapting to different sport environments that the place requires.
In respect of the raised sports, they are divided in height according to their density, accommodating in a regular level of 28,8x28,8 m, divided in blocks that are multiple of 0,6 m. That is to say the surface form which we start is around 830 m2, which vary to the extent that the platforms become deformed and more vertical programmes are intercalated.
