STATEN ISLANDS
The project is developed in the Jaro district of the Philippine city of Illoilo, an area at level 0 above sea level that experiences continuous flooding. This problem is to be solved by means of a main network of pipes from which different secondary networks derive, which sew the city looking for empty urban spaces as an urban acupuncture. This network, in addition to containing minor flooding, is used for the transport of goods, water and waste management. Along its different perimeters a series of nooks and crannies are generated that are used to create different areas under enclosures and functional membranes supported by bamboos that make up the State Islands.
These membranes are prepared to be covered with mycelium or any type of mushrooms suitable for human consumption.
Given the foreseeable disappearance of the city by the arrival of the Great Flood in 2166 in each of the islands state, supported on floating platforms are planned different habitable modules that will locate the uses and services that will be lost. As for example the island dedicated to the Market, Education, Entertainment, etc..
The proposal highlights the great political-logistic central core located in the old Jaro market that reinforces its perimeter character with facilities supported by walkable bamboo structures and mycelium storage membranes.
In this political center will be located the parliament in a broad sense, because it will include not only the bodies necessary for the elaboration of the legislation applicable in each of the State Islands, but also for the execution of the laws and their application.
From the logistic point of view, the spaces are constituted by!
-The silos: Formed by a large vertical bamboo structure and large silos for storage of food and all kinds of materials (to be distributed by ship).
- The refinery: Intended for the purification of water from each of the island states. It consists of central purification facilities as well as a large habitable water management membrane.
-The landfill: Space for the treatment of waste derived from organic matter that will be used to create fertilizer to sustain the mycelium membranes.
-The Morgue Incinerator: Space for the collection of corpses.
-The workshop: Space for the repair and storage of boats.
Finally, in 2166, when the area is completely devastated by the great flood, only the new systems devised will remain standing, new forms of housing and transport will be born, such as footbridges connected to the pipe network and transport by boats. Creating a functional system interdependent of the new island states.
