The dolmen
The project is based on a monolithic structure that expands through the air. This structure of stereotomic character serves to inhabit and be inhabited.
It takes place in a thermal power station located in the port of Alcudia, in the north of Mallorca. This plant was built by Ramón Vázquez Molezún between 1955 and 1961. Currently, its access is restricted due to the risk of demolition.

The first part of the course belongs to the group work, where we analyse the environment from a sensory perception.

In the individual part, the abandoned power station had to be rehabilitated. The program consists of some workshops for creative people.
The proximity to the sea facilitates the arrival of the monolithic structure by boat. The dispersion among the pre-existing buildings proposes to unify everything from some prefabricated concrete beams, which are adjusted to the perimeter limit. These pre-stressed beams are superimposed on each other, colonizing the environment and replacing part of the pre-existing structure corroded by the passage of time. These structures are maintained by their own weight and are in constant balance.
The need arises to separate from the ground level to leave the natural space free. The beams centrifuge through the air from the main body. The structure allows to overcome the topographic unevenness.
The beams sometimes seek support from the ground and take root with it. The monumental scale requires a structure of large dimensions. The relationship between beams and slabs is reminiscent of the primitive architecture of the dolmens.
To connect the spaces at height, some beams act as footbridges. In both public and private spaces, the shape of the beams allows the interior to be inhabited. The structural configuration helps to optimize and organize the interior space.
The edge of the precast prestressed concrete module allows to house facilities. The whole plot is solved with the same piece whose alterations allows to facilitate the construction. The rationalist structure serves to inhabit and be inhabited.

In short, this primitive architecture expands through the air unifying the place and trying to leave the natural space intact. The dolmen tries to bring the old power station back to life and to blur the boundaries between the architecture and its surroundings.
