transparências
What happened to women who need shelter? Which are their needs and their fears? How do we help and protect them when they come from such horrible scenarios? To those questions this project tries to listen. Transparências is located in the old neighbourhood of Alfama, Lisbon. Working with a complicated perimeter, surface, and program, the shelter is based in circles, glass, and curtains to create spaces where everything can be transformed. In contrast with the area, the sight is of a glass façade that folds, which generates interior patios and an ambiguous appearance. Rooms are grouped with kitchens, bathrooms and living areas creating pseudo-homes instead of working as a normal residence. This way, connections and communication between women are created. Every room is different, with movable furniture that allows each woman to live the space as they wish and bringing in their children if needed. The shelter is just a space for stability, tranquillity, and community, where living can be much more than survival.
