A system to expand the Chamartín Station

The Chamartín Station was built by Corrales and Molezún in the decade of 1970 and is an important piece of Madrid’s contemporary architectural heritage. Is one of the most important spots of transport of the city and it’s part of the Castellana, an axis in constant change that will transform its north end with a new station and a new master plan.
The project is the transformation and enlargement of the current station. This intervention in the building follows the system that the architects that designed the building in the 70’s used. It’s a basic system composed by linear units that can modify its volume and can be repeated to grow the building.
The building is modified and extended following the previous structural pattern, making a coherent and well-articulated set. The preserved elements and contemporary architecture will stablish a relationship between the current and new geometries, that will be the image of the project.
