UNIQUE HABITATS
Can you imagine yourself living on a cliff at the Mediterranean Sea, or in a sensory environment located in the English countryside, or maybe in some glass spheres located in the 'Brazilian jungle'?
We are located in the vicinity of three iconic houses of the 20th century, with the aim of creating a unique housing experience of small size and occasional use, like an Airbnb.
1.CAN LIS by Jorn Utzon. Mallorca, Spain
The infinite sea, its contemplation will be the main idea of this first proposal, just as it was for Utzon.
However, it is raised from a different experience that allows you to get closer to it, through some stairs that will guide you through spaces that will increase the level of intimacy as you go down.
This approach to the sea implies, in turn, the approach to a more hostile environment, causing the house to close and protect itself from it as it gets closer.
2.UPPER LAWN by Alison and Peter Smithson. Wiltshire, England
The English countryside, the crops, the rain, it was the exhaustive analysis of this context that gave rise to the second proposal.
It is based on the creation of three sensory capsules, which will be constructively anchored to the wall: the first, half-buried; the second, in direct contact with the ground; the third, elevated. Passing through each one will allow you to have a complete and immersive experience of the environment that surrounds these iconic house, its textures, smells, sounds, sights, sensations...
3. GLASS HOUSE by Lina Bo Bardi. Sao Paulo, Brazil
It will be in this small Amazonian jungle where the latest proposal is developed, based on the maximum respect for its existing nature and biodiversity.
The proposal consists of two main parts, the one that is inhabited, the spheres, which act as nests; and the one that communicates, the meshes.
The floor plan organization is articulated around a common central core. As you go further towards the sides, the density of vegetation increases, appearing then the most private spaces.
The section organization corresponds to the different strata of the vegetation: forest floor (root and moss layers), herb, shrub, understory and canopy layers.
Communication between meshes happens through its own changing geometry when it warps, which allows climbing from one to another through certain openings. In addition, to facilitate circulation, there are certain supports that have a kick ladder.
The structural support is provided by the polished stainless-steel pillars that would reflect the environment until they disappear into it. On these, both spheres and meshes are anchored, through steel tensioners. Spheres have a light metallic triangular structure, which needs 4 tensioners to be completely stable. This way the project becomes a constructible reality.
The overall objective has been the analysis and extraction of the essence of these iconic houses, enhancing the experience of their architecture and context through construction and material, and thereby transforming the traditional housing program, in these radically different contexts that have given rise to these Unique Habitats.
