UP IN THE WOODS
The following proposal for the Artist Academy of Europe, under the title Up in the Woods, offers a new experience of life, experimenting with the daily time of its users and generating new spaces for a greater inspiration. At the same time, the current gap at this part of Madrid Río is sewn up in, giving to this space the required continuity. Thus, a huge threshold is projected by an agglomeration of geometric pieces that gives shelter to the public space where it is projected. This decision sets the public space free, instead of interrupting the walk along the Manzanares River. The threshold is sustained by a series of structural pieces that also lodge the bedrooms and the workshops for each resident. Every tower holds two floors (workshops in the lower floor, bedrooms in the upper floor) and gives service to one person. The connection between the towers and the threshold is described in the images. The rest of the program is located in the basement and receives the necessary light through to the different patios penetrating the ground. The geometry of the Voronoi diagrams is used as a tool, generating different spaces and offering a particular composition, different degrees of privacy, new views and new lights.
