Zurcidos Florales en Palermo
We are located in the Albergheria, one of the four quarters of the old town of Palermo, which is linked to the royal palace. A neighbourhood full of narrow streets, historical ruins, small squares, and a complex urban fabric. The course consists of two exercises. A series of minimal interventions as urban acupuncture and a residential development on two adjacent plots.
The current housing model is thought of as compact nuclei of coexistence, which are directly related to the rest of the city. It jumps from the room to the great avenue and creates a duality between the private and the public. In response to this situation, the project seeks to create a relationship between the individual, the nucleus of coexistence, the community and society. It is not a question of adopting binary positions (individual or communal housing), but of a gradient between spaces, softening and extending the limits of the home. To this end, a series of strategies are identified that give continuity to the ensemble and establish a dialogue with what already exists.
The project explores the limits of intimacy and envisions a future in which living is sharing. In this way, past histories are mended towards a new future. A Palermo that grows from the present, from what is and what is yet to come. A Palermo that lives in community.
