TRANSPARENCY
“Transparency” is the name given to both of the two projects of this quadrimester. The basis are the lightness and the transparency taken from a photomontage of the painting “The Garden of Earthly Delights”, by Hieronymus Bosch. The photomontage tries to reflect the ideas of symmetry and modulation.
The first project is based in the creation of confinement cells, creating a big structure with a scaffold form. This scaffold holds the folds created in the previous phase of modulation. This is the way by which a series of habitable and accessible units are developed, overlapped over the façade of the fortress, and creating a hive which is light and difficult to make out. In this way we gain the idea of being in the air, in addition of following the geometry of the fortress when seen from above.
Like in the previous project, the second one follows the idea of lightness, being an intervention inside a ship. This project is based on a huge mesh held by lineally arranged porticos, that are part of the preexisting structure of the ship. The feeling of weightlessness and inestability that appear in the minds of every surfer take control of this new space giving the idea of being floating in the air.
The prime objective of the course was the creation of two fluid spaces for the different planned places and are the result of modulation, symmetry, and especially the lightness and transparency that give and idea of “to be or not to be” in the same place at the same time.
``Transparency´´ es el nombre que recoge los dos proyectos de este curso. Nacen de la ligereza y transparencia a partir de un fotomontaje del cuadro ``El jardín de las delicias´´ del Bosco. Este intenta plasmar las ideas de simetría y modulación.
El primer proyecto se basa en la creación de células de confinamiento y reclusión, a través de la introducción de una gran estructura en forma de andamio que sostiene una piel de pliegues surgidos del trabajo previo de modulación con el cuadro. Aparecen así una serie de módulos habitables y transitables que se superpone en la fachada de la fortaleza, creando una gran colmena superligera y casi imperceptible que permite estar en el aire, y que en planta intenta seguir la geometría de la fortaleza.
Al igual que en el anterior proyecto el segundo sigue también la idea de ligereza, es una intervención dentro de un barco. En este caso el proyecto se basa en una gran malla sujeta por pórticos que se repiten linealmente y que son fruto de la propia estructura preexistente del barco. La sensación de ingravidez e inestabilidad propias de los surfistas en el mar se apodera de este espacio y juega con la idea de flotar en el aire.
La intención durante el curso fue la creación de dos espacios fluidos para los distintos lugares que se plantearon y son fruto básicamente de la modulación, la simetría, y sobre todo la ligereza y transparencia que da sensación de estar y no estar al mismo tiempo.
