urban dairy plant
The projects takes place in the Clesa dairy plant, designed by Alejandro de la Sota and located in the north of Madrid, near Ramón y Cajal Hospital. The principal idea is restoring the factory and its surroundings introducing cultural, leisure, sport and residence uses.
As a result, Clesa is turned into a new reference point due to its mixed use. In the first place, there is the leisure area with concert venues, restaurants, pools and a big garden in the principal shed. Secondly, there are production areas such as the purification system, laboratories and co-working center. On the other hand, new buildings are designed with the purpose of creating a new density in the premises of the factory, combining residence for different ages and sport areas. This new complex is formed by the intersection of different-height-buildings, which have the measure of Clesa’s unit. In addition, vegetation has an important part in the project because of its using as a construction material in the façade. The structure of the new buildings is made by concrete which is mixed with vegetation to benefit from its advantages. Consequently, every building in the complex has the same appearance.
To sum up, the project introduces new ideas of living such as horizontal or vertical life. New homes are created giving more importance to spaces that don’t usually have it like bathrooms. For this reason, every room, including baths, are designed with the idea of having natural light and different types of vegetation, which helps to create a pleasant vibe.
